The symbol of ST. JOHN is the eagle, because from first to last his Gospel soars on eagle's wings to the very throne of heaven. The figures near the bottom of each window are merely decorative.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:1-14, NKJV).

Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” (John 20:17, NIV).

This is the disciple who is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, and we know that his testimony is true. Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. (John 21:24-25, ESV).

If the moderators will kindly permit a new book announcement, I would like to tell people about a spirituality book I’ve written and recently published that may be of interest and service.

Courageous Souls: Do We Plan Our Life Challenges Before Birth? explores the premise that we are all eternal souls who plan our lives, including our greatest challenges, before we’re born for purposes of spiritual growth.

The book contains ten true stories of people who planned physical illness, having handicapped children, deafness, blindness, drug addiction, alcoholism, losing a loved one, and severe accidents.

The information about their pre-birth plans was obtained by four very gifted mediums and channels, including one who has the ability both to see and to hear the conversations we have with one another before we’re born. The book therefore contains the actual conversations people had with their future parents, children, spouses, friends, and other loved ones when they planned these challenges.

As readers come to understand that they themselves planned many of their challenges, suffering that once seemed purposeless becomes imbued with deep meaning. Wisdom may be acquired in a more conscious manner; feelings of anger, guilt, blame, and victimization are replaced by acceptance, forgiveness, gratitude, and peace.

A free PDF with a large sample of the book is available on the About the Book page at www.CourageousSouls.com. People may also wish to read the reviews on Amazon.

The book may be ordered on the Courageous Souls web site or from Amazon, including Amazon Canada, UK, France, Germany, and Japan. It may also be ordered from any bookstore or library (in most countries) by providing them with the ISBN number (9780977679454).

Dear friends and Rumi lovers,

I’m thrilled to let you know that my novel – A MOTH TO THE FLAME – the complete life story of Sufi poet Rumi – has been released by a new publisher and is now available on Amazon.com. For lovers of Rumi, poetry, and mysticism, it’s the inside story of how he became a poetic genius and illuminated teacher.

“From my first breath I have longed for Him. This longing has become my life.” – Rumi

A Moth to the Flame is the story of the meeting of two human beings that, like the conjunction of two planets, realigned the fates. Although it happened long ago, during another time of war between Islam and the West, this tale of an individual life fully lived is the tale of every life: Rumi’s yearning for God is our yearning, his anguish, our anguish, his victory, our victory. In the tradition of Siddhartha or The Last Temptation of Christ, his story is the mythic story of the human soul.
In this first novel about him, based on original sources in both Farsi and English, we discover the key moments that shaped his poetic genius. We watch his faith tested, and we witness his meeting with the beloved, which overturned his world and led, eventually, to his union with God.
For centuries, Rumi has remained as alive as Shakespeare in the hearts of millions of Muslims. Today, in the West, where he is a bestselling poet, he burns like a torch of inspiration for us all.
Connie Zweig, Ph.D., a student of the mystical practices of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Sufism for more than thirty years, is a therapist and spiritual counselor in Los Angeles. She is co-author of Meeting the Shadow and Romancing the Shadow and author of The Holy Longing: The Hidden Power of Spiritual Yearning. This is her first novel, the inner story of holy longing as lived by Sufi poet Rumi.

Enjoy the book! Feel free to pass on this message to anyone who might be interested.

So I've had a few conversations with my younger sister, Katheryn (19), who has moved to South Carolina since my mom died last October. She lives with some missionaries and is getting christian counseling. In every conversation I have had with her, she has quoted anr/or read to me from the bible regarding hell or how not to get to hell, etc. . . . so personally I needed to remind myself about the truth about hell. Listed below is an passage from CWG Book 1, pages 40-42:

What is hell?

It is the experience of the worst possible outcome of you choices, decisions, and creations. It is the natural consequence of any thought which denies Me, or says no to Who You Area in relationship to Me.

It is the pain you suffer through wrong thinking. Yet even the term “wrong thinking” is a misnomer, because there is no such think as that which is wrong.

Hell is the opposite of joy. It is unfulfillment. It is knowing Who and What You Are, and failing to experience that. It is being less. That is hell, and there is none greater for your soul.

But hell does not exist as this place you have fantasized, where you burn in some everlasting fire, or exist in some state of everlasting torment. What purposed could I have in that?

Even if I did hold the extraordinarily unGodly thought that you did not “deserve” heaven, why would I have a need to seek some kind of revenge, or punishment, for your failing? Wouldn’t it be a simple matter for Me to just dispose of you? What vengeful part of Me would require that I subject you to eternal suffering of a type and at a level beyond description?

If you answer, the need for justice, would not a simple denial of communion with Me in heaven serve the ends of justice? If the unending infliction of pain also required?

I tell you there is no such experience after death as you have constructed in your fear-based theologies. Yet there is an experience of the soul so unhappy, so incomplete, so less than who, so separated from God’s greatest joy, that to you soul this would be hell. But I tell you I do not send you there, no do I cause this experience to be visited upon you. You, yourself, create the experience, whenever and however you separate your Self from you own highest thought about you. You, yourself, create the experience, whenever you deny your Self; whenever you reject Who and What You Really Are.

Yet even this experience is never eternal. It cannot be, for it is not My plan that you shall be separated from Me forever and ever. Indeed, such a thing is an impossibility–for to achieve such an event, not only would you have to deny Who You Are–I would have to as well. This I will never do. As so long as one of us holds the truth about you, the truth about you shall ultimately prevail.

But if there is no hell, does that mean I can do what I want, act as I wish, commit any act, without fear of retribution?

Is it fear that you need in order to be, do, and have what is intrinsically right? Must you be threatened in order to “be good”? Who gets to have the final say about that? Who sets the guidelines? Who makes the rules?

I tell you this: You are your own rule-maker. You set the guidelines. And you decide how well you have done; how well you are doing. For you are the one who has decided Who and What You Really Are–and Who You Want to Be. And you are the only one who can assess how well you’re doing.

No one else will judge you ever, for why, and how, could God judge God’s own creation and call it bad? If I wanted you to be and do everything perfectly, I would have left you in the state of total perfection whence you came. The whole point of the process was for you to discover yourself, create your Self, as you truly are–and as you truly wish to be. Yet you could not be that unless you also had a choice to be something else.

Should I therefore punish you for making a choice that I Myself have laid before you? If I did not want to you make the second choice, why would I create other than the first?

This is a question you must ask yourself before you would assign Me the role of a condemning God.

The direct answer to your question is, yes, you may do as you wish without fear of retribution. It may serve you, however, to be aware of consequences.

Consequences are results. Natural outcomes. These are not at all the same as retributions, or punishments. Outcomes are simply that. They are what results from the natural application of natural laws. They are that which occurs, quite predictably, as a consequence of what has occurred.

All physical life functions in accordance with natural laws. Once you remember these laws, and apply them, you have mastered life at the physical level.

What seems like punishment to you–or what you would call evil, or bad luck–is nothing more than a natural law asserting itself.

Dear Friends!

I am thrilled to announce that the movie version of CONVERSATIONS WITH GOD will go into production on November 7!

My hope has always been that a film could help many more people appreciate the extraordinary messages in Conversations With God. Because the books mean so much to so many people, I didn't want to risk turning the movie over to Hollywood. I wished for a movie that would retain the integrity of the CwG message, and send it in an amazing and
imaginative way. Now this intention has been manifested and the dream is becoming a reality.

The film is being produced and directed by my dear and trusted friend, Stephen Simon, who has brought to the world such classics of Spiritual Cinema as SOMEWHERE IN TIME
and WHAT DREAMS MAY COME. With Stephen's involvement, I know we will preserve the purity of the messages AND make a thrilling movie. Our screenwriter, Eric DelaBarre,
has written a wonderful and compelling script that captures the untold story behind the books, creatively intertwined with the messages of Conversations With God.

In August, hundreds of enthusiastic actors participated in the casting process. Many of them told us that they felt called to support this film. Frances Fisher, who starred as Kate Winslet's mother in TITANIC, shared with us the synchronicity
that led to her being cast in Conversations With God:

On the evening of July 12, while walking in the woods around my home, I cried out to God for the answer to my constant struggle between my personal life, following my creativity and making an impact with my work. Which, in essence means, integrating my spiritual practice in all the realms of my world. The next day a friend sent me an email suggesting that I would be perfect for one of the lead roles in CWG. Within hours the role was mine.

Shooting begins on November 7 and ends on December 9. The Spiritual Cinema Circle is capturing the entire process for its DVDs. Each month, Circle members will see a 5 - 7 minute / Behind the Scene mini-documentary on the making of this film. Circle members will also be the first to own the Conversations With God movie when it comes
out on DVD. If you're not already a member, you can join by clicking here, www.spiritualcinemacircle.com/

You can see the most recent version on the CWG movie site, <www.cwgthemovie.com

If you would like to be an extra in the film, please send an email with your daytime phone number to cwg@jeffersoncasting.com mailto:cwg@jeffersoncasting.com
or call 541-899-0201 and leave your name and phone number.)

I have also been invited as a special guest for the next Spiritual Cinema Festival at Sea. This unique film festival featuring spiritual filmmaking will be held aboard
Holland America's Oosterdam, sailing from San Diego on April 22 - 29, 2006 along the Mexican Riviera. Those on the cruise will be the very first in the world to see footage from CWG. For more information on how to join us, please see www.spiritualcinemafestival.com/

Just as the CWG books became worldwide bestsellers by word-of-mouth, we have created an innovative campaign to help spread the word about the film. During September
and most of October of 2006, Stephen & I will travel to 18 cities throughout the U.S. and Canada on a preview screening tour. For one night in each city, we will show the completed film and dialogue with the audience afterwards. We have
listed the cities, dates and locations on www.cwgthemovie.com

Tickets for these advance screenings will go on sale next year.

The premiere for the film will be held in Portland, Oregon on Thursday, October 19. 2006 as a benefit for Sisters of the Road, a non-profit organization that assists the homeless. The film will be released into theaters and the Spiritual Cinema Network of churches the weekend of October 20, 2006. Details will be on the website as they become available.

I ask you to lend your heart to the project in any way you can. One way to participate is by holding a space in your consciousness for this film to bring the messages of Conversations With God to millions of people on the planet, and in so doing, to bring healing and harmony to our world.

With love,

Hello all I want to share an article I found about Heaven and Hell I really like. Enjoy! Would appreciate any comments you might have. :)

Heaven and Hell
David Pratt
A theological nightmare
The idea that we live one short life on earth and then spend the rest of eternity in either a hell of torment or a heaven of bliss must rank as one of the most absurd superstitions ever invented by the human mind. No life on earth, no matter how good or how evil, could possibly justify an eternity of reward or punishment. What's more, if the Christian God created our souls, he must have given us our basic character traits, and would therefore be largely responsible for our actions, and if that is the case, there would be no justice in punishing us, or – for that matter – in rewarding us. And if this God really made us in his own image, wouldn't that reflect rather badly on God?

Another unjust feature of the traditional Christian scheme of things is that whether we're sent to heaven or hell doesn't depend on all the deeds we've done during our life but solely on whether we believe in Jesus at the moment we die. This means that an atheist who has lived an exemplary altruistic life would automatically be consigned to the flames of hell, while a person who had committed unspeakable crimes but later repented and turned to Jesus, would go to heaven. This doctrine is partly based on chapter 16, verse 16 of St Mark's Gospel, where Jesus is made to say: 'He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.' We can safely assume that no genuine spiritual teacher could ever have uttered such words. And indeed this verse, and in fact all the last 12 verses of the last chapter of St Mark's Gospel are known to be a forgery; they are a later interpolation and are not found in the oldest Greek manuscripts. This was admitted in a footnote in the Revised Edition of the Bible, published in the 1880s, but the forged passage was still included as part of the main text. [1] But in the Revised Standard Version of the Bible, published in 1901, the forged passage was relegated to a footnote. (Clearly, even the 'word of God' evolves!)

Another question raised by orthodox Christian theology is this: How could those who go to heaven ever be happy when they knew of the terrible atrocities being inflicted on the damned in hell? The early Christian theologian Tertullian apparently had no problem with this. He said that he actually looked forward to the day when, after joining the elect in heaven, he would see all those who had opposed Christianity burning in the flames of hell. He wrote: 'Oh, what shall be the magnitude of the scene. How I shall laugh! How I shall rejoice! How I shall triumph!' [2] (Clearly Christian charity was not one his stronger points!)

Many churchmen have left us chilling descriptions of the tortures suffered by the wicked sinners in hell. For example, a Roman Catholic book for children tells how children who get sent to hell will writhe in agony as the blood boils and bubbles in their scalded brains. And an English Baptist clergyman by the name of Spurgeon wrote:

When thou diest thy soul will be tormented alone; … but at the Day of Judgement thy body will join thy soul and thou wilt have twin hells; thy soul sweating drops of blood, and thy body suffused with agony. In fierce fire, … thy body will be, asbestos-like, forever unconsumed, all thy veins roads for the feet of pain to travel on; every nerve a string on which the devil shall for ever play his diabolical tune of hell's unutterable lament. [3]
However ridiculous it may seem to us now, this superstitious nightmare of an eternal hell has been firmly believed in for over a thousand years.

Distorted echoes of the ancient wisdom
Not surprisingly, the orthodox Christian belief in heaven and hell is held by fewer and fewer thinking people. It's no more than a very distorted echo of the original teachings of the wisdom religion – that ancient tradition from which all later religions have sprung, and from which they've often departed in quite significant ways as they've become increasingly mangled and dogmatic. The original teachings on heaven and hell differ from later exoteric doctrines in three important respects.

Firstly, they recognize that there must be an endless variety of after-death states to suit the widely varying quality of the life that each of us has led on earth. We find echoes of this in many religions. Even the Bible, for example, speaks of Hades (or Sheôl in Hebrew) as an intermediate state between heaven and hell, and St Paul speaks of a 'third heaven'. The kabala, the esoteric tradition of the Jews, mentions 7 heavens. The Hindus speak of 7 higher worlds (or lokas) and 7 lower worlds (or talas).

The second important difference is that all the various after-death states were originally regarded as only temporary, never permanent. The Bible sometimes describes hell as 'eternal', but it's worth noting that the Greek word aiônios was often used to mean an extremely long, but still limited period of time. The Christian Church Father Origen believed that punishment in hell would eventually come to an end and everyone would be saved, but this view was rejected by the Roman Catholic, Protestant, and Greek Orthodox Churches.

The third important difference is that the after-death states were originally said to be experienced in the invisible worlds interpenetrating our own world, whereas some later exoteric religions have located their heavens and hells in different parts of our own material world. For example, hell has been located at the centre of the earth, on the moon, and in the sun. Others have placed heaven in the sun, or in the earth's outer atmosphere, or in the depths of space.

According to the ancient wisdom tradition, then, there is no eternal heaven and hell, but a variety of temporary after-death states that are undergone in the invisible worlds. The reason we can't see these worlds is because they are composed of grades of matter beyond our range of perception.

Worlds within worlds
It's interesting to examine whether this idea of worlds within worlds makes sense in the light of modern science, or rather, whether modern science makes sense in the light of the idea of worlds within worlds, an idea which has been held by all the greatest mystics and sages throughout the ages. First, let's take a brief look at three theories which speak openly of other 'worlds' or 'dimensions', but which bear little or no resemblance to the occult theory.

The first is the theory of 'baby universes' put forward by theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking. On a scale of a billion-trillion-trillionth of a centimetre, so the story goes, the fabric of space is said to become an effervescing froth of spacetime bubbles, which all have the potential to grow into mature universes, connected to our own by tiny umbilical cords known as 'wormholes'. The number of universes coming into existence every second in every cubic centimetre of our space could be as many as 10^143 (one followed by 143 zeros); all these universes in turn give birth to countless other universes. As one critic remarks: 'It is a vision that seems to beg for some form of cosmic birth control' [4]. In his latest book, Hawking assures us that even if there was a 'population explosion' of baby universes, there would be still no shortage of room, because they exist in a realm of their own – the realm of what he calls 'imaginary time'; he defines imaginary time as a direction of time at right angles to real time [5]. He gets rather irritated with those who reject imaginary time as an irrelevant mathematical trick. Such people, he says, fail to realize that imaginary time is 'an intellectual leap of the same order as believing that the world is round' [6]. Whether this theory will be proved right, or whether baby universes and imaginary time will end up being consigned to the trash can of history remains to be seen. At present, at any rate, there's not a scrap of observational evidence to support the theory.

The second theory is the 'many-worlds interpretation' of quantum physics. According to this theory, whenever an event takes place or a decision is made in which there's a choice of possibilities, the universe splits, without anybody noticing, so that every possibility is realized but in different universes. This means that an infinity of new universes are generated every instant. We ourselves supposedly exist in countless different universes, doing different things, and thinking different thoughts. This particular brain of ours is only aware of one of these universes – this one. All the other branches of reality are said to be completely inaccessible to us – which is very convenient because it means that they can't be disproved. This theory too has no direct evidence to support it; it's simply a rather wild interpretation of one of the equations of quantum physics. It is however surprisingly popular among quantum physicists.

The third theory is superstring theory. This claims that the fundamental particles of matter are really one-dimensional strings – tiny closed loops with length but no thickness – which vibrate and wriggle about in 10 dimensions of spacetime (an earlier version said there were 26 dimensions). The reason we see only three dimensions of space in the real world is because the other dimensions have for some unknown reason undergone 'spontaneous compactification' and are now curled up in an area a billion-trillion-trillionth of a centimetre across. The mathematics of superstring theory are so incredibly complex that no one has yet found any solutions to the relevant equations. In fact, superstring theory has yet to make a single testable prediction. Nevertheless it's become the latest craze among many physicists. But it does have its opponents. For example, Nobel Prize winner Sheldon Glashow has likened it to medieval theology, and another Nobel laureate, Richard Feynman, bluntly dismissed it as 'nonsense'.

Leaving these three rather fanciful theories aside, much better support for the idea of worlds within worlds is provided by the standard scientific understanding of matter and energy. Matter nowadays is regarded as condensed energy, as bottled-up radiation, or crystallized light. The spectrum of electromagnetic energy is infinite, but scientists can detect only about 100 octaves of it, ranging from radio waves, with wavelengths several metres long, to x-rays, gamma rays, and cosmic rays, with wavelengths less than a billionth of a centimetre long. Visible light is situated somewhere in the middle and covers only one octave.

We're continuously bathed by a sea of electromagnetic energies of every conceivable frequency. An important property of this energy is that waves of sufficiently different frequencies can pass through one another without interfering. If they did interfere, the world around us would appear as a complete blur. Since matter is condensed energy, it seems reasonable to suppose that the infinite spectrum of energy gives rise to an infinite spectrum of matter, in which grades of matter of sufficiently differing densities, or rates of vibration, can pass through one another without noticeably interacting. Our physical world could be simply one octave of this infinite spectrum of matter-energy, and could be interpenetrated by innumerable other worlds, the lower worlds, or 'hells', being denser and more material than our own, and the higher worlds more ethereal, ranging from the astral realms up to spiritual or heavenly realms.

Although mainstream science regards all talk of etheric, astral, and spiritual realms as superstitious nonsense, it's worth remembering that in the last century most scientists accepted the existence of an ether. The ether can be thought of as a medium of subtler matter pervading all space, and forming the substratum of physical matter. The ether went out of fashion early in the twentieth century, with the arrival of the more abstract theories of Einstein. But all that has happened is that the word 'ether' has been replaced by a much vaguer word 'field' – nowadays we hear of quantum matter fields, electromagnetic fields, and gravitational fields. Scientists can describe these fields mathematically but they can't give a satisfactory explanation of what they really are.

If physical matter arises out of the quantum field, what does the quantum field arise out of? Or are we to believe that the quantum field is the 'bottom level' of reality, that because our equations stop there, reality must also stop there? One scientist who rejected any human-imposed limits to reality was the distinguished physicist David Bohm. He called the quantum-field level of reality the implicate order, and he likened it to a vast ocean of energy, on which our physical world is just a ripple. But he says that the implicate order in turn unfolds from and is organized by a superimplicate order, and that there may be an infinite number of further, increasingly subtle levels of reality, each level having both a material aspect and a consciousness aspect. As Bohm puts it: 'everything material is also mental and everything mental is also material, but there are many more infinitely subtle levels of matter than we are aware of' [7].

Another scientist with unorthodox ideas is the biologist Rupert Sheldrake. He says that the fields and forces known to science fail to explain how organisms acquire and maintain their forms, they fail to explain instinctual and selfconscious behaviour, and they can't really account for evolution. He therefore suggests that there are higher-level fields, or what he calls morphic fields. These nonphysical fields include morphogenetic, behavioural, and mental fields, and these correspond to what mystics and occultists might call the astral body, the animal soul, and the human soul. And what Sheldrake calls the morphic field of Gaia, the earth, corresponds to the astral world in which these subtle bodies exist.

Inner worlds and their inhabitants
If there really are worlds within worlds, a natural question is whether they might be inhabited. Since visible light – which simply means light that is visible to us – covers only one octave of the infinite electromagnetic spectrum, could there be entities dwelling in other parts of the spectrum which are normally invisible to us?

There is in fact strong evidence that such entities exist. It all began with the perfecting of radar during the second world war. Radar works by emitting bursts of microwaves which are reflected back by whatever gets in their way. Microwaves lie between radio waves and infrared radiation, and infrared lies just beyond the red part of the visible spectrum. During the war radar was used to detect enemy aircraft and ships before they became visible to the eye. And it was a great success. But something rather embarrassing started to happen. Objects were detected by radar which remained invisible even when they were so close that they should have been visible to the naked eye.

The following famous incident took place during the war. Two US aircraft carriers were patrolling the area south of Okinawa in the North Pacific, when their radars detected a huge force of 200 to 300 enemy aircraft approaching from the northeast. At a range of 100 miles their speed was determined to be nearly 700 miles an hour – faster than any known aircraft in the world at that time. All the American aircraft available were scrambled and directed towards the attacking force. Despite excellent visibility, the fighter pilots saw nothing, even when directly above the attacking force. The 'enemy' kept on coming towards the task force, which was now preparing itself for the impending attack. The mysterious formation flew over the fleet, but the crew never saw a thing – just an empty blue sky. There have been many similar incidents since then. These invisible objects are officially known as – or rather dismissed as – 'radar propagation anomalies', or 'spurious echoes', or 'radar ghosts', and sometimes they're jokingly referred to as 'angels'.

A pioneering researcher in this field is Trevor Constable, a well-known aviation historian. He discovered that by using an ordinary camera and infrared film, all sorts of invisible objects could be photographed in the sky. He believes that some of them are intelligently designed and controlled craft, but others, he says, have all the hallmarks of living creatures; many look like giant pulsating unicellular organisms or amoebas. The existence of these plasmatic lifeforms has been independently verified by researchers in Europe and the United States. It seems that under certain conditions some of these creatures can alter their density and become physically visible and tangible. Constable discusses many sightings and includes many photos in his book The Cosmic Pulse of Life [8].

Back in 1949 the US Air Force came close to admitting that such organisms existed. Some of the luminous UFOs that buzzed its aircraft at high altitudes were observed to pulsate, and in April 1949 a public announcement was made that these objects appeared to behave more like animals than anything else. Since then no further official announcements have been made. But given its widespread use of radar and infrared detectors, the Air Force is certainly aware of these creatures. In his book, Constable includes a photograph of an Air Force fighter plane, armed with Sidewinder infrared homing rockets, trying to intercept one of these creatures above the Mojave desert.

Constable spent many frustrating years trying to arouse the interest of professional scientists and military and government organizations in his work. But with a few notable exceptions, the response he met with was hostile, intolerant, and irrational. No one ever challenged the authenticity of the photographic evidence. But because it shows things that official science can't cope with, most scientists refused to give the matter any further attention. The idea of crafts or creatures materializing and dematerializing between the etheric and physical realms has no place in the materialistic worldview. Constable was eventually forced to the same conclusion as Max Planck, the founder of quantum physics, who once said: 'A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light; but rather because its opponents eventually die and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it.'

The creatures that Trevor Constable has photographed appear to inhabit the etheric borderland between the physical and astral realms. The astral realms are said to be inhabited by further varieties of elemental beings and also by the souls and astral shells of the dead. Since the middle of the last century a great deal of research has been carried out into paranormal and spiritualistic phenomena. A whole new branch of science – parapsychology – has sprung up, though it receives as yet little recognition from mainstream science. But there's plenty of evidence, for those willing to see it, that something like the astral realms and astral entities must exist. Either that or there's an enormous number of hallucinating, self-deluded, and lying individuals walking around.

It's rather curious that most scientists are quite happy to allow the weirdest mathematical abstractions into their theories, but seem unwilling to give any serious consideration to the evidence for nonphysical grades of matter and nonphysical energies and forces. Unlike the hypothetical baby universes that Hawking has conceived, and the split-off universes connected with the many-worlds interpretation of quantum physics, and the extra dimensions required by superstring theory, the astral realms are open to investigation by those possessing the necessary faculties. We can't see the astral world with our physical senses, but it can be investigated by those who've developed their inner senses to some degree. However, it's said to take the trained spiritual vision of a true seer or adept to reliably distinguish the real from the false in the highly deceptive astral world.

Our after-death journey
According to orthodox science, the human body consists of about 3 dollars worth of chemicals, organized in a highly complicated manner. A person who has just died is essentially composed of the same chemical elements as when he or she was alive. That means that while scientists can give extremely detailed descriptions of the structure of DNA, they're unable, after 400 years of observation and experiment, to explain the difference between a living human being and a corpse!

According to the theosophic tradition, just as the physical universe is merely the outer shell of inner worlds – astral, mental, and spiritual – so every physical being is animated by inner energy-fields or souls. The physical body dies when the connecting link with the inner bodies is broken. The physical body then proceeds to decay on the physical plane, while the astral model-body that held it together during life and the higher astral form in which the lower mind has its seat slowly dissipate in the lower astral realms. This part of the astral world is sometimes called the kâma-loka, the world of desire; it corresponds to the Purgatory or Limbus of the Roman Catholics, the Hades of the ancient Greeks, and the Orcus or Underworld of the Romans.

The death of the physical body is really only the 'first death'. It's followed by a 'second death' in the astral realms, when the human soul, or reincarnating ego, separates from the astral shell and enters a blissful, dreamlike state of rest, known in theosophy as the devachan, meaning a 'happy state'; it corresponds to the sukhâvati of the Buddhists, the svarga of the Hindus, the Amenti of the ancient Egyptians, and the Elysian Fields of the ancient Greeks. When the energies finding expression in the devachan are exhausted, the thirst for material life begins to reassert itself, and the soul is drawn back to the earth for a new incarnation, clothing itself in many of the same astral and physical atoms that it used in its last life.

According to this perspective, there's no outside power, no extra-cosmic deity, directing us to heaven or hell. Rather, we're drawn automatically and unerringly to those realms and conditions with which we resonate most strongly. The length and nature of our feverish and fitful sleep in the kâma-loka and our sweet and peaceful sleep in the devachan depend entirely on the sort of life we've led on earth, and the extent to which we've either indulged our lower, selfish impulses or cultivated our higher, more spiritual aspirations. We therefore create our own heaven and our own hell – both during life and after death.

Conclusion
We live in a questioning and critical age when the religious and scientific dogmas of the past are increasingly being challenged. The idea, for example, of a personal, anthropomorphic God, a sort of magnified image of ourselves, a God who created the universe and ourselves from nothing, who listens to prayers, grants favours, forgives sins, and eventually consigns us to heaven or hell – such a God finds fewer and fewer believers.

At the same time, the idea of a soulless, mechanical universe governed by nothing but chance is not very compelling either. An increasing number of scientists are seeking a more holistic, purposeful, and creative vision of life. There are, however, a few scientists who actually believe that they're on the verge of discovering a Theory of Everything, a complete and unified theory of the whole universe. Leon Lederman, the director of the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory near Chicago, has said: 'We hope to explain the entire universe in a single, simple formula that you can wear on your T-shirt.' (Surprisingly, he was quite sober at the time!) Obviously, in an infinite universe there can be no final theory, only limited theories applying to limited contexts and which break down when we go beyond those contexts. Far from being close to a Theory of Everything, official science has barely scratched the surface of reality.

It may well be true that the basic laws and principles of nature can be expressed in fairly simple terms. But what could be more straightforward, and more appealing, than the idea of universal Life and Consciousness; the idea that every entity is ensouled by a spark of divinity, which embodies in an endless variety of forms in an endless variety of worlds in each grand cycle of its evolution; that instead of being condemned to a single life on earth, followed by an eternity of heavenly bliss or the tortures of hell, we have many lives in which to unfold our full human and divine potential. According to this vision – the vision offered by the ageless wisdom religion – there are no limits to reality except those we impose through our own limited understanding. We live in a universe of spirit as well as of matter, a universe of infinite diversity and infinite wonder.

How do you create a life that is in accordance with your own wishes? What are your wishes or better yet desires?

A more abundant life? A promotion at work? A more healthy body? To be a better parent? All these desires are what I call desires that are aligned 100% with spirit. You can create what ever you desire as long as it is in line with spirit, higher conciseness, God, being-ness, all these words are interchangeable. Whatever your flavour just understand that a desire aligned with spirit is possible to create and bring into your life. You are a creative being and manifest your own reality all the time, non stop creator you are.

But first lets look at your desire. For desire to be aligned with spirit it must be of the highest energy. It must include all people, the planet and the universe . It must build upon what all ready exists in the energy matrix that we live in. A desire that includes some people and not others is not aligned with spirit and will not manifest into your life.

So how do you manifest your reality, how do you concisely create your life? Well now lets look at your desire. Lets pick one of more abundance, all of us would like to have abundance. But how is this possible. Watch your thought patterns, to create more abundance we will call this desire a 100% level desire. Now any other thought that is not 100% aligned with spirit well cause your desire not to show up. Thoughts such as these, there is not enough to go around, it will never happen to me, I always get screwed , If I become abundant I will spend it all on my family and I (a thought that includes some and not others), all of these thoughts are not aligned with spirit, god consciences, higher intelligence. These thoughts function at 35 %, 40 %, 15 %, etc. These thoughts attract like energy, energy which is less than the 100% needed to be in spirit.

But you say “ dear Thaddeus I ignore these thoughts and still my desires don’t happen. I still do not have abundance in my life!”

My answer is this, it is on its way. Always remember that, it is worth repeating, IT IS ON IT”S WAY! If you hold your desire which is aligned with spirit, you will manifest what you need into your life to reach your desire, it is on its way. Live in the moment and pay attention to your environment, perhaps a song , a news article, a friend may lead you into the direction of your manifestation, Let go of all expectation, for often we manifest our desire through a way we never even expect.

Be like the crane who stands perfectly in the water, knowing that Gaia will send a fish within range so that it may strike and then fulfill its desire for nourishment. Be passive until opportunity arrives then pursue it with the intensity of an inspired person. Inspiration is great, I love the word itself for it can be broken down into two words…In Spirit. So manifest what you need my friends, all is possible when aligned with spirit, you can create any of your desires just believe in yourself.

Remember every day you wake up you face the greatest choice of your life. Do you live in a hostile world ? Or do you live in a world of love, in which you are the creator of your reality.

One more thing, everyone reading this I have a question to ask you, do you have a time that you wake in the middle of the night, say between 2 am and 5 am ? Most of us do. My advice is this, do not go back to sleep. This is your special time, it is the time that your mind is quiet and you are at your most creative. Get up, go for a washroom break and if you like to write grab a pen, if you paint grab your brush for this is your most creative time, do not go back to sleep. Write out your thoughts , desires etc and make a plan. Perhaps even sit and try meditation, just do not go back to sleep. This is your time.

The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.
Don't go back to sleep.
You must ask for what you really want.
Don't go back to sleep.
People are going back and forth across the doorsill
where the two worlds touch.
The door is round and open.
Don't go back to sleep.

My dear friends,

I am Will Richardson, and I have been with the CwG Foundation since it was formed about ten years ago. I start by calling you my friends, because I feel that over the years I have met so many of you by phone and in person at the retreats and other functions. Thanks for that opportunity, and for Being my friend.

I have performed many tasks around the Foundation since we formed it and I have served as general flunky (the biggest job), retreat coordinator, executive director,
and had many other clean up roles. It has been a major growth period for me and I have enjoyed almost all of it (I am into transparency, so can’t honestly say all
of it). There have been times when I have had to ask myself “What in the world do you think you are doing here?” and times when I have absolutely known this is
exactly where I belong.

I first met Neale ten years ago, and we both, immediately, knew we were ‘brothers’. He has come to be one of my “best” friends and we enjoy spending time together.
I am currently, once again, the retreat coordinator for the Foundation.

A few months ago, we went through a major reorganization here. We pared down to five full time employees, and about three contract employees, who work part time. We also have several volunteers who work part time. We have a couple office spaces in one of the local downtown office buildings, and several of us work from our homes
(which I do and love). We have weekly meetings of the Core Council, to keep us all updated on the goings on and planning for the future.

I am currently putting together the retreat schedule for 2006 and locating the venues for the retreats, as well as the budgets and marketing plans. It will be an exciting
year with some really exciting new retreats and formats. I hope many of you will join us at one or more of the retreats next year.

Many of the preceding letters from other staff members have told you how we are struggling to make ends meet. I am now going to take a big chance and tell you we are really making great progress in our financial picture, and are actually paying off some of our debt.

Now, please, don’t think that we do not still need you. You are the reason we are here and doing all we do. You are the ones that make it possible for this important work in sharing the messages of Conversations with God to continue and to expand. Your contributions are what keep us going and are enabling us to pull ourselves out of the deep financial pit we have been in for so many years.

Yes, we are making progress, and YES, we still need you and all you care to do to help us. We need your monetary contributions. We need you to continue telling others about these books and the wonderful messages contained in them. We need you to continue and expand the study groups out there. We need you and others to come to the retreats to have a better understanding of yourselves and this work.
We need you to keep referring others to us and to the LEP, where you can really learn how to share these messages in an effective manner.

So, please, don’t forget us. I know with Hurricanes Katrina, and Rita and now Wilma and earthquakes in Pakistan, and landslides in Central America, it is easy to feel pulled in so many different directions. And perhaps, one of the things you have learned from CwG is that we cannot change any of these things, all we can do is change the way we choose to BE in the face of them.

So, please keep those cards and letters and checks, and emails coming. We are making it and will make it and it is all because of you. You are the reason we are here – in more ways than one. Your contributions make it possible for us to continue, and we continue because you are out there, and ask us to keep it up.

And since we are all one, we help each separate individuation by helping each other.

Blessings and Thank You.

It is about the book " what does god want "
I have read most of neales books and most of the time I am so there that I already understand. There is something in this book that I am opening myself up to but I am still finding me and my heart in this.
I hear it when he says I have all that I need. I also hear it and say gratitude for all that I have then praying out of lack.
Got that no probs
My question is
Are there such a thing as guides?
twin souls
soulmates
I mean really
when you view god in the sense of just saying thank u as the creator
and then if u leave so called things to fate
which then isnt in gods hand but your hands depending on the intent u have put out there
or u seek help re clairvoyancy
all this reading has and is changing something more deeply
Kinda the core of religious habits from generations ago are being rocked.
I guess I am questioning alot here
All good

My Dear Friends,

I hope that you are having a wonderful July wherever you are in our world, and though my heart is deeply touched by all the self-destructive behavior that I see around us (the London bombings being the most recent sad example), I know that everything that is occurring--the so-called "good" and the so-called "bad"--is part of a larger process.

As you know, Conversations with God was published in 1995. Yet for me the process was already three years underway--and continuing. It began in 1992, when the message first started coming through. After Book One was published it was only a matter of months before I became deluged with mail and email and telephone calls from people all over the world asking for more information, more opportunities to learn more about what was being brought through and how to apply it in their every day lives, and even opportunities to learn how to share CwG with others in small groups, lectures, seminars, etc., and how to teach it in more formal settings and classes.

In order to respond to this avalanche of loving and eager reaction, I turned to some of my very best and closest friends and asked for their help in forming a non-profit foundation. Today our group continues its mission, but I am always amazed at how differently people see us from the way we actually are. Somehow, people have gotten it into their heads that we are a giant non-profit corporation, something like CARE, Inc., or the Red Cross, or Save the Children. We are not. The Foundation is six people working out of a very tiny office and much of the time out of their homes, all on minimal salaries.

The organization undertakes each month to gather the physical and monetary resources necessary to do what it seeks to do in the world--and some months it begins to look as if the obstacles are becoming simply insurmountable. The law for non-profit organizations prohibits me, personally, from supplying more than a limited amount of the money
needed to keep things going, and, more important, perhaps, I have always felt that if there was not sufficient public support for this work, it should not continue. I have never wanted it to simply be my own personal "pet project."

Our outreach is your outreach. You touch the world through what you do through us--such as the Books for Friends program, which sends copies of the CwG books to many people in the world, including prisoners, who cannot afford to buy a copy of their own. Similarly, our workshops and retreats offer fully 20% of all participant spaces as full scholarships to those who just cannot to pay the already low admission fees.

My life has been so deeply touched by my involvement with the CwG Foundation, and I hope that its work can continue. Right now it is facing what appears to be an annual "summer doldrum" in support, when everyone is going off on vacation or otherwise involved in life's activities and our normal way of continuing the work--through enrollments in our programs and product purchases--ebbs and, in the case of this particular year, slows to a crawl.

If there is any way you might assist us get past August and back into the swing of things in the Fall with a supplementary contribution right now, gosh, it would be so very, very helpful. And do please let us know what we might do for you in making Conversations with God an even more impactful and meaningful part of your life.

God bless you, and thank you for being there for us through all these weeks and months since your first contact with us. I appreciate you more than you can know--and the world says its own grateful thanks for every effort you make to help carry the extraordinary message of healing and hope of CwG to others.

You inspire me!

The conversations with God books have about 70% Truth and 30% lies in it.

There are a few levels of Spirit Beings, this post covers the main types of spirit beings who communicate with us in the Material World.

The higher spirit beings are called Masters, inorder for a person to communicate with one of them, you would have to be using atleast 60% of your Christ Consciousness. You can tell if a person is using their Christ Consciousness by the way they behave towards others and how they live their Life. Neale was angry when he began writing that letter to God, and people who live at the Higher levels of Christ consciousness would not write an angry letter to God. Anger closes your consciousness to communicating with the Masters, but Anger will open your consciousness to lower Spirit Beings.

The next Level of Spirit Beings are Spirit Guides. Spirit Guides work close with the Masters, so if they were to communicate with you, you would know most of the advice they give you would be coming from what the Masters taught your Spirit Guide. They aren't perfect, but they try to help you the best they can from the information they get. Most likely, when you cross over to the Spirit World, you could be a Spirit Guide for someone who is born in the Material World.

Spirit Guides know they are individualized gods, but since they work close with us in the Material World and they know what we believe and how we live our lives here, they would never ever identify themselves as being God. Your Spirit Guide would tell you the Truth of who they are, unlike most lower spirit beings.

Then there are two types of lower spirit beings. The first type are Light Souls, who would be someone like you who would cross over and once you got there you wanted to continue to help those still in the Material World. You would work under a Spirit Guide and still get help from the Masters.

The second type of lower spirit being is known as a dark soul. A dark soul will give you a bunch of Truth with lies mixed in with the information. This way, the dark souls believe they have more time to live as they do without having to face the Final Judgement. Plus, they can continue to keep you on the wheel of reincarnation so they can live on the Energy God gives you. God does not give Energy to dark souls, and they have to find people like us that do get energy from God. So, they give Neale just enough Truth to keep him listening to them, but not a 100% Truth so Neale and his fans will continue to live their lives that cause us to remain on the wheel of reincarnation. They will never get off the Wheel of reincarnation as long as they believe that the Lies in his books are Truth. Because a person will live as they believe, even if they think the Lie they Live is Truth.

The best way to know what level of Spirit Being your communicating with is which direction are they taking you, are they moving you away from God, or are they moving you towards God. Dark souls want you to believe you are separate from God, and Light Souls, Spirit Beings and Masters want you to know your not separated from God.

God Bless!

A spiritual perspective on the tsunami

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Deepak Chopra interview on Larry King Live regarding God and the Tsunami
1/7/05

KING: Deepak Chopra, how can you have faith when you see something like this?

DEEKAPK CHOPRA, AUTHOR: Hi, Larry. In fact, your faith increases, Larry.
Because faith is trusting that God is all the forces, the forces of creation, the forces of protection and the forces of destruction. This is an opportunity for us to transcend our religious differences, our ethnic boundaries, and create a new humanity which is based on love, sharing, compassion, giving.

And we are seeing that. The militaries of the world are getting together to bring relief. People are losing their differences in Sri Lanka. The Buddhists and the Hindus and the Muslims are getting together. This is our opportunity.

You know in historical traditions, in religious traditions, God rained on the earth for 40 days. And from that came Noah's Ark and the creation of a new humanity. Can we create a new humanity that is not based on militarism ethnocentrism, racism, bigotry, hatred, and prejudice?

KING: Deepak, if he loves us why does he bring us such pain that could be prevented?

CHOPRA: I think, Larry, one of the problems right now is we keep referring to God as him and his. We have a very sexist, male identity that we've given to God. I agree with Michael Lerner, that our idea of God, our concept of God, our experience of God, changes as we evolve. I think the idea of sin and punishment is very, very primitive. And we have to ask ourselves right now, are we going to choose between sin and compassion? Compassion is the way to go right now.

And you know, there's lots of evidence, even scientific, that the earth is a living organism. The gaia (ph) hypothesis. Is it possible that our consciousness and the turbulence in our consciousness has anything to do with the turbulence in nature? Michael Lerner just referred to that. One of the very interesting things that happened with the tsunami was, no animal died. The elephants. The hares. The rabbits. The birds. They were so tuned in to the forces of nature that they escaped. They ran. Some of the elephants broke their chains and ran to the high level mountainous area where the tidal waves could not reach. We have lost that connection. Is there a way that we can collectively transcend to a level of consciousness where we see that the turbulence in our collective mind, possibly, is inseparable from the turbulence in nature? Because we are part of nature.

KING: Is it hard, Deepak Chopra, to stay up? In other words, is it hard to ground that feeling of good will when you see a tragedy like this?

CHOPRA: No, it in fact helps you ground that feeling of good will, Larry. You have to remember, as again, Rabbi Lerner said something very profound. The actual figure is 40,000 children are dying every day of preventable causes. 23 million people have died since World War I due to war and related violence. Right now there are 35 wars going on in our world. This is an opportunity for us to say, the cataclysmic events in nature are so big, but the inhumanity of man to man is even bigger. And can we learn from this, that at least there are certain things that we can do to make this a better world? What can we do? This is our opportunity to go beyond our religious differences because of what's happening. It brings out the essential goodness of man.

CALLER: The question is, do you have any advice as to the masses, exactly how to keep this a little more balanced?

KING: Good question.

CHOPRA: It's a very good question. You know, the idea here is that if we quiet the turbulence in our collective mind and heal the rift in our collective soul, could that have an effect on nature's mind, if nature has a mind? The gaia hypothesis says nature does have a mind, that the globe is conscious. So a critical mass of people praying or a critical mass of people collectively engaging in meditation could conceivably, even from modern physics point of view, through non-local interactions, actually simmer down the turbulence in nature. And there are precedents for this in all the religions. That when you pray, that you quieten your mind, that you go into deep silence, you change the way nature behaves. That it's not a cause/effect relationship; it's the inseparability of one consciousness that manifests itself in the diversity of creation.

KING: Deepak, do you doubt?

CHOPRA: No, Larry, I don't doubt. But I do feel sorry sometimes that we have allowed God to be hijacked by religious dogma. For example, right now on the show there aren't any women. You know, why is that? Every time we do a show on God, religion, it's always us males representing these different traditions. We need to realize that when we share our suffering, out of that comes compassion. And out of compassion comes love and understanding. And from that comes healing. As long as we stick to "my" version of God, we're going to have problems. I say that right on the show.

(As an aside, Chopra's comment about the absence of women led King to ask the other participants whether he was right and if there was a religious show on television the next night, would they expect to see a woman. The responses led King to suggest a program just on that issue.)

by Rob Brezsny

This is a perfect moment.
It's a perfect moment for many reasons, but especially because you and I are waking up from our sleepwalking thumbsucking dumbclucking collusion with the masters of illusion and destruction. Thanks to them, from whom the painful blessings flow, we are waking up.

Their wars and tortures,
their crimes against nature,
extinctions of species
and brand new diseases.

Their spying and lying
in the name of the father,
sterilizing seeds and
trademarking water.

Molestations of god,
celebrations of shame,
stealing our dreams and
changing our names.

Their ingenious commercials
and bloodsucking hustles,
their endless rehearsals
for the end of the world.

Thanks to them, from whom the painful blessings flow,
we are waking up.

Their painful blessings are cracking open more and
more gashes in the shrunken and crippled mass
hallucination that is mistakenly called "reality."
And through the fractures, ripe eternity is flooding
in; news of the soul's true home is pouring in; our allies from
the other side of the veil are swarming in: inspiring
us to become smarter and wilder and kinder and
trickier.

We are waking up.
As heaven and earth come together, as the dreamtime
and daytime merge, we register the shockingly
exhilarating fact that we are in charge-- you and I
are in charge--of creating a brand new world. Not in
some distant time or faraway place, but right here and
right now.

As we stand on this brink, as we dance on this verge,
we can't let the ruling fools of the dying world
sustain their curses. We have to rise up and fight
their insane logic; defy, resist, and prevent their
tragic magic; unleash our sacred rage and supercharge it.

But overthrowing the living dead is not enough.
Protesting the well- dressed monsters is not enough.
We can't afford to be consumed with our anger; can't
be obsessed and possessed with their danger. Our sweet
animal bodies need love and fertility. Our
imaginations crave tastes of infinity.

In the New World that we are creating, we've got to
be steeped in lusty compassion and ecstatic duty,
ingenious love and insurrectionary
beauty. We need radical curiosity and reverent pranks,
voracious listening and ferocious thanks.

So I'm curious, my fellow creators. Since you and I
are in charge of making a brand New World, where do
we begin? What wild truths do we want at the heart of
our transformations? What fresh codes and stories will
be our oracles? What crafty questions and uplifting
desires will be our inspirations?

Here's where I want to begin: with pronoia. Pronoia
is the opposite of paranoia--the *antidote* for
paranoia.

Pronoia is the true theory that all of creation is
conspiring to shower you with blessings.

Pronoia is the guarantee that life always gives you
exactly what you need, exactly when you need it.

Pronoia says that everything alive is working very
hard to liberate you from ignorance and transform you
into the gift of love you were born to be.

I am allergic to dogma. I thrive on questions, and
don't trust any idea that tempts me to believe in it
absolutely. There are very few perceptions or theories
about which I am totally certain.

But I am absolutely certain that pronoia describes
the way the world actually is. Pronoia is wetter than
water, truer than the facts, and stronger than death.
It smells like cedar smoke in early spring rain, and
if you close your eyes right now, you can feel it
shimmering like the aurora borealis in your soft, warm
animal body.

Some Buddhists say the inherent nature of existence
is suffering; they long to escape into Nirvana. Many
Catholics say the inherent nature of life is sinful;
they long for the purified peace of heaven. But
pronoia assures us that the inherent nature of life is to
liberate us.

Being born on the earth is the highest honor and
greatest privilege. To be alive as human beings gives us the chance to
pull off exquisite and Herculean feats of magic that
are not possible in nirvana or heaven or any other
so-called paradise, higher dimension, or better place.

I'm not exaggerating or indulging in poetic metaphor
when I say this. Visualize it if you dare.

The sweet stuff that quenches all of our longing is
not far away in some other time and place. It's right
here and right now.

As Elizabeth Barrett Browning knew, "Earth is crammed
with heaven."

"This Is a Perfect Moment" is an excerpt from:

My Dear Friends...

Always for me this week between Christmas and New Year's has been a time of happiness and joy. This year, too, it has had its share of that. Family and friends have been near. Wonderful expressions of love have been exchanged. In Ashland, Oregon, which I call home, we even had a gentle snowfall the day after Christmas, with flakes as big and fluffy as can be. I had a Currier & Ives print right outside my windows as the white stuff painted the tops of the softly sloping mountains across the valley.

Now we move into the New Year, and I have had a wonderful experience of facilitating another of our Foundation's annual five-day Christmas retreats, our most popular retreat of the year, in which we work with a handful of people (I think there are about 75 this year) who travel from around the world to get here and work in a very special and intimate way with the Conversations with God material, to see how they can more effectively apply it to their daily lives.

In the midst of all this wonder, however, my heart and the hearts of all of humanity are heavy today, with the increasingly bad news coming out of southern Asia. There, as you all know, 10 countries have been devastated by tidal waves that obliterated seaside towns and killed more than 100,000 people---with the number still rising as I write this. All of this was the result of the magnitude 9 earthquake some 3,000 miles away that struck beneath the Indian Ocean off the coast of Indonesia, the most powerful earthquake in the world in four decades, that sent tsunamis raging across that entire body of water at over 500 miles an hour.

The International Red Cross has expressed concern about waterborne diseases like malaria and cholera. Jan Egeland, the U.N. Emergency Relief Coordinator, said millions of people were effected---by lost homes, polluted drinking water, destroyed sanitation---and that the cost of the damage would "probably be many billions of dollars.''

"We cannot fathom the cost of these poor societies and the nameless fishermen and fishing villages and so on that have just been wiped out. Hundreds of thousands of livelihoods have gone,'' he told reporters.

The count of the dead rose sharply a day Government and aid officials suggested the toll could jump even further, citing unconfirmed.

In the midst of all this I received an email, from which I include below some excerpts...

Dear Neale,

How would this earthquake that took place be explained to someone like myself, who has found a lot of answers and truth in the Conversations With God series, but cannot fathom how such devastation and death could, without warning and without mercy, strike upon and kill... thousands of people in Indonesia and surrounding countries?

What is the root reason which causes Earth--Life--God to create this experience for thousands of people in one particular area? It is hard to believe that this instantaneous act of nature was anyone or any group of people's intention. All the people in this area were not wishing nor hoping that the Earth would shake like this and kill them.

They are picking the bodies of dead children out of trees right now since the tidal waves wiped out many shorefront villages. Are earthquakes simply an occurrence in nature which is not manifested or provoked by our thoughts, but more of a matter of cause and effect with the Earth's plates?

Does the Earth itself have a God consciousness, and does the Earth really respond to what we desire, or does it operate on its own? Why would the Earth strike upon and eliminate more than 11,000 (the death tolls are rising as I write) all in this area?

I have a hard time believing that this event came from a field of everyone's soul intention in that area--it seems so random and merciless. Many people will be asking themselves today how this could happen if there is a God spirit that loves, a God spirit that only desires for us what we desire for ourselves, a God that only creates for you what you wish to create for yourself--how all these people could have possibly chosen that experience and it must have been in their control to choose it for themselves.

What is the reason this earthquake chose to happen there and then? Was it really the choice of all those people and children?

I want to see the order in this, Neale.

Sincerely, Cheryl, CA
______________________________________________________

My answer to Cheryl may not be very satisfying, but it is the only answer I have and know how to give...

Dear Cheryl...I understand the feelings of deep sadness, helplessness, and frustration that generate your questions. My heart is breaking, too, at the death and destruction. As it was on September 11, 2001. As it was during the Korean War. As it was during World War II, which, yes, I remember as a small child.

Wars, at least, we can understand at one level. It is something we are doing to each other. We may not understand, fully, why we are acting in such ways, but at least we know that we are doing it to ourselves.

Hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, and earthquakes, on the other hand, leave us speechless and feeling utterly helpless. There is no one at whom to point a finger. No one except Nature, or God. And if God did this, then why?

That is the question, and it is a fair one.

Let me begin my response by disclaiming any sense of wisdom or higher understanding here. I do not know or have the sure answers to life's biggest questions. I only have the answers that I believe I have been given.
I have tried very, very hard to bring these answers through in a way that makes sense, in a way that remains true to the original message, in a way that honors the prime impulse that produced them. I ask you in advance to please forgive me if I do not do a good job of preserving this deep wisdom and passing it forward.

With my having said that, let me pass on to you what I believe that I have been told:

God does not cause things to happen. God is not a Being in the sky, or living somewhere in the Universe, who decides when and where to make “good” things happen, and when and where to create disaster and devastation.

Life creates its own outcomes through the process of life’s energies expressing themselves in response to creative forces (in this case, we might call them the “forces of nature”) set into motion by the process of Life Itself.

I know that seems like a circular answer, but that is because it is a circular process. There is a Cause and Effect Process underway in the Universe, and it is this Cause and Effect Process that we are witnessing every day.

Human beings can and do play a role in this process. Depending upon the level of their conscious awareness, the results of that process manifest themselves in daily life. Collective consciousness produces the collective experience of all of humanity. Likewise, individual consciousness produces individual experience.

With rare exceptions, collective consciousness is far more powerful than individual consciousness, and that is why even persons of high individual consciousness sometimes are affected and impacted by the consciousness of the entire collective called humanity.

In these cases, things appear to be happening that are “against the will” of individual people. They are also against the will of the human species itself. Not even at the collective consciousness level could anyone claim that humanity has willfully desired such devastation as this earthquake and tsunami. What, then, is going on here? Are we truly helpless mortals exposed to the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune?

In a sense, yes. That is because the accumulated impact and effect of the collective consciousness is rarely known to the collective itself, much less to any of its individual members. It is something that we all witness together---sometimes with horror.

There is also the truth that everything that lives is a part of the collective consciousness of Life Itself. It has been said that the earth, for instance, is a living organism. I have been made aware that this is true. But, like the rest of Life, this organism does not do what it does out of anger or joy. It simply and merely responds to the stimuli of Life Itself.

Life is a process that informs Life about Life through the process of Life Itself. It is supposed that persons of enormously powerful and pure consciousness—a Christed one—can and do have the power to produce or to avoid specific outcomes of the Life Process created by the stimuli of collective energies acting upon each other. Yet even Jesus Christ had events occur in his life which one would say that he did not willfully desire or create. Or did he?

Even though Christ in the garden prayed to God, “My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken me?”, and then asked that this cup might pass from his lips, he nevertheless ended with these words, “Not my will, but Thine.”

This was Jesus’ way of submitting to the higher authority, or, in metaphysical and spiritual terms, to the part of himself which he realized he did not fully have awareness of at the conscious level, but which he knew he was a Part Of, and which he knew was creating the outcomes into which he was walking.

In other words, even Jesus understood that there were some things he did not understand fully, but there was nothing in which he did not have a part in creating. “I and the Father are one,” he said, and he meant it and knew it. So he knew that the part of him that was connected to the Whole was responsible at some level for all that was occurring.

If we think of death as the worst possible thing that could happen to a body or soul, none of this makes any sense. Only if we listen to the words of God and come to an understanding that death is the great release, the great escape, the most wonderful experience we could possibly imagine, can we begin to grasp at the edges of uncertainty here and find something to hold onto.

I have more, much more, to say on this subject, but I am running the risk of producing an entire book here in this one letter, so I want us all to ponder what has been placed here today, and next week let us continue this discussion, using this week’s intervention to provide us all with the emotional distance that we may need to move back into clarity around experiences such as this.

For now, I urge all of us to do what we can to provide succor to those who have been so deeply affected by this earthquake and tsunami. The International Red Cross is providing humanitarian assistance, and you may take part in the providing of that by going right now to the Internet link I have provided below. Please do so.

God bless us all, everyone. And for now, ponder these things in your heart.

Love….Neale.

A wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the firm purpose of showing his son how poor people live.
They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.
On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?"
"It was great, Dad."
"Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked.
"Oh yeah," said the son.
"So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father.
The son answered: "I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond >our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them."
The boy's father was speechless. Then his son added, "Thanks, Dad, for showing me how poor we are."
Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have.
Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends! "Life is too short and friends are too few."
But I didn't want to affirm things like, "There is no Need." Affirmations work best when we affirm positives. So I rewrote them as:

Abundance
Success
Unity
Sufficiency
Love
Equality
Choice
